Wine Cabinet - Worth the Investment?

in Wine Cabinet

A wine cabinet is a wise investment for anyone who has decided to get serious about collecting wines.  As you get more and more in to your wine hobby, you will most likely be spending more money, due both to the quantity of wine bottles you purchase and the quality of the wine you are buying.

The fact about wine is that it is not best stored in normal room temperatures.  Also, each type of wine has different requirements for storage – some require more humidity while some need less, and some require a lower temperature.  Most wines do not thrive in the two places where those without a wine cabinet would store bottles – a room temperature cabinet or a refrigerator.

Refrigerator temperatures are much too cold for storing most wines (though chilling a bottle of white for a few hours is okay), and the taste will be marred if stored for too cold for too long.  And a cabinet at room temperature is not much better, as the temperature and humidity at which the wine is stored will fluctuate based on the weather.  Unstable storage conditions are bad for any wine.  A wine cabinet can solve these problems quickly, and often inexpensively.

The cost of a wine cabinet will be completely offset by the money you would lose when having to get rid of ruined, improperly stored wine. You can buy wine cabinets that you can adjust to one temperature or humidity level for general storage, or you can buy more sophisticated wine cabinets that have different areas that can be programmed at different humidity and temperature settings.

This will allow you to enjoy your wine collection to the fullest, as each bottle and type of wine will be stored at ideal conditions.  That way, you will be able to stock up on your favorite wines and save them for special occasions without having the fear that they will get worse over time.

Wine cabinets are very much worth the investment if you want to pick up wine as a hobby; they are very specific and attuned to the needs of wine, a much better option than storing it in your refrigerator or out in the open. I’d suggest looking at Le Cache, Eurocave or Marvel wine refrigerators; you can find these online at Vintage Cellars!
